The Deceptive Liberal Media Bias Exposed Again: Ann Romney -vs- Michelle Obama

Ann Romney slammed for $990 Shirt, Michelle Obama praised for $6,800 jacket

Back in May, Ann Romney, wife of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, wore a $990 Reed Krakoff silk shirt for a media appearance. The item of clothing set off a media firestorm, with the Romneys widely accused of being “out of touch” with average Americans.

In particular, the Washington Post wrote that the $990 blouse “will not help her husband change those perceptions, no matter how many Laundromat photo ops are on the campaign’s itinerary.”

Fast forward to last Friday, when First Lady Michelle Obama attended an Olympics reception for heads of state at Buckingham Palace, donning a J. Mendel cap sleeve jacket from the 2013 Resort collection.

The price-tag? $6,800.

This time, the Washington Post simply described the intricacies of the jacket and noted that Mrs. Obama has previously been criticized for “not dressing up enough for Queen Elizabeth II, so she stepped up her game.” No snide remarks, no outrage over the cost, no suggestion she was “out of touch.”

“The media’s overabundant love affair with the Obamas has become increasingly blatant as this election draws nearer. Scrutinizing Mrs. Romney for a fashion choice that cost considerably less than that of the First Lady is yet another example of the media being purely sanctimonious,” former political publicist Angie Meyer told FoxNews.com. “The media continues to relish their roles as liberal bullies, and have relentlessly bullied the Romneys from the beginning. It is pure hypocrisy at its finest.”

Glenn Selig of The Publicity Agency concurred.

“The media will not stay quiet on the issue because wealth remains a big issue with the Romneys. It is not his fault that he’s wealthy, but the media is portraying it as a liability,” Selig said.

Dan Gainor, VP of Business and Culture for Media Research Center in Washington DC, said it’s “just the latest example of a consistent media theme that somehow Romney is too wealthy and out of touch because he’s a millionaire. Except of course that Obama is also a millionaire. “

Some also highlighted the apparent hypocrisy on Twitter. “And you thought the Romneys were out of touch?” tweeted one, while another wondered who had to pay for the almost $7,000 dress, and another balked that the “jacket would put a lot of food on the table of one of the 25M unemployed people in USA.”

Not everyone’s nose was out of joint, however. Media commentator Jenn Hoffman told FoxNews.com that “Americans need to face the fact that with our current system, politicians need to have money. That is how they get into the office in the first place. If you are near the White House, you have access to serious cash and much of that cash is spent on honing your image.”

Mark Joseph, producer of “Wild Card: The Promise & Peril of Sarah Palin,” added that “Mrs. Romney’s wardrobe expenses are certainly fair game, but so are Mrs. Obama’s, and political reporters have got to do a better job of being even-handed.”

  1. Good Morning America :D

  2. Pardon me, but these people really do make my ass tired! It’s such a double standard with the Obama loving media. Whatever the FLOTUS does is fine – except when it was Nancy Reagan.

    • Good Morning Roxannadanna. It tires me also and yet when I talk to my liberal family members they swear by CNN or MSNBC believing every word they hear. On the other hand they would never, ever, watch Fox News cause they lie. Go figure, the Kool-Aid is strong in Liberal America.

    • The only thing they have is to attack the opponent in whatever way possible.
They are tiring to me also, but, the attacks on a couple that earned their money while we still cannot ferret out just where Obama got his to attend some of the most elite colleges in the country and will not release his records is the height of arrogance.
Ann Romney is a survivor of breast cancer, and now is contending with MS, which cannot be defeated.
I wouldn’t care if Mitt Romney was a liberal and running for POTUS, don’t attack his wife, especially given her condition.

If Romney wins the election, I feel that Ann will make an excellent First Lady.

      You are a nurse Roxy.
Ann has a big challenge ahead of her if Mitt wins.
I am sure that she is up to it.

  3. I don’t care who wears what label, I don’t care how much it cost them, I don’t care what their income level is and I don’t care if they are able to take every tax cut they can. I do care that Obama never takes any blame, I do care that I don’t know what his college stats were, I do care that he can’t seem to tell the truth, I do care that he has appologized all over the ME, I do care that ObamaCare will help ruin the US, I do care that he has let terrorists into the peoples WH, I do care that is stated we are not a Christian nation, I do care that he thinks Islam is a peacefull religion, I do care that we keep allowing the Muslims in our country that want to kill us and I do care that he doesn’t care that our borders are as pourous as his usless speeches are.

    • Amen and Amen……. you go girl and tell it like it is my friend, Hooorah

    • It’s all about character Muse.
I don’t agree with Romney on a number of things, but I respect his character.
I feel that he is a good man, and that he will do his best to fix the economic morass we are in.
If we are successful in taking the majority in the senate, and keeping it in the house, the conservatives will be able to hold his feet to the fire.
Romney is far and away more of a Patriot compared to Obama.
      Romney is an economic troubleshooter.
He sees this economic mess we are in as a challenge, and he is up to it.
The childish attacks on Ann are indicative of the attacks they waged on Sarah Palin and her family. They were relentless.
That is an indication of the lack of character the left wields while insisting that the conservatives never step over the line.
The Tea Party Movement didn’t exist during the last presidential election.
It does now, and it has a loud voice.
It says: We the People of the United States of America do hereby demand that you the politicians adhere to the Constitution of the United States of America.
Now,…what could be wrong with that ?

      • Excellent post. No one is perfect. Romney has to win or we won’t have America any longer. When the MSM made fun of Ann’s horse made me irate, but it embarassed the left big time. Even the Bain attack was called false by many Democrates. Obama hasn’t apologize for that and I know he never will. I despise how the MSM jumps all over Romney’s gaffes and gives Obama a pass. I wonder what the MSM will do when Romney wins and won’t go on their stations? They can’t get any lower in ratings. Our economic situation is one that I believe Romney can turn this Socialist agenda around. We as Americans can’t let Obama win.
